On the basis of well-known examples such as asbestos, x-ray radiation, PCBs, halogenated hydrocarbons, and BSE the study “Late Lessons from Early Warnings: the Precautionary Principle 1896-2000” examines how unbelievably long it has taken from the first warnings about the dangers of certain materials and processes until appropriate consequences has been taken in politics and business.
