Advocate Lutheran General Hospital
1775 Dempster St.
Park Ridge, Illinois
Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is a 617- bed teaching,
research and referral hospital, a Level I trauma center, and one
of the largest hospitals in the Chicago area. It also is home to
Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital, the only
children's hospital in the greater north and northwest suburban
area of Chicago and a major regional referral center for a broad
range of infant and pediatric services.
Over 180 individuals were involved in the design process of the
new structure, a 192-room, 393,000 square foot tower. The
building, scheduled for occupancy in June 2009, features large
single rooms with dedicated family zones to enhance safety,
privacy and comfort, improved facilities for the treatment needs
of patients, and many special features and conveniences. Large
expanses of glass used in the building play an important role,
providing a healing environment by allowing generous amounts of
natural lighting in patient rooms, family lounges and staff work
areas.
Get a behind-the-scenes view of this nearly complete building
and hear how the hospital planners incorporated the LEED-NC
Version 2.2 requirements for Gold certification into the design
and construction process, including a projected energy savings
of $200,000 per year.
