Designers, planners and managers of health care facilities are designing and constructing buildings to better support the health of patients, staff, and the environment and to save money. CleanMed 2004 spotlights these emerging green building issues in health care:
The April 13 Pre-conference training seminar is the first-ever day long introduction to the Green Guidelines for Healthcare Construction, led by the GGHC Steering Committee and introduced by the Executive Director of the American Society of Healthcare Engineering, Dr. Al Sunseri. This document is the first metric green building tool specifically structured for the health care sector, with explicit emphasis on key relationships between buildings and health.
An opening Plenary panel titled "Green By Design: Improving Health through Building Design Decisions", frames the conversation about the fit between sustainable building practice and the health care industry.
Concurrent panels and workshops in the main conference on indoor air quality issues, selecting green materials using life cycle and environmental health frameworks, the links between building materials and asthma, and case studies on completed green health care buildings.
A Poster Exhibition highlighting green health care building projects from around the country. The conference includes a Poster Walk to hear from designers of these projects, and a conference workshop focused on the exhibit.
An Exhibit Hall featuring vendors focused on a range of green building products specific to health care.
